Q: How long will it take me to start making money?

That depends on you. If you follow the Modelworks Training System and use the practice aids diligently you could be ready to process actual cases for clients in as little as a few weeks.

Q:  What equipment do I need?

You will need a model grinder, a vacuum mixer, and a dental vibrator. I explain what these are in the Modelworks textbook and you will see them in action in the Modelworks Video. The rest of the things you will need are small hand tools such as spatulas and mixing bowls.

Q: What kind of investment are we talking about?

The answer depends on if you buy new or used equipment. I always buy my equipment used. With this strategy you won’t have any money at risk. In the unlikely event that you decide to get out of the business, you can sell your equipment on eBay for what you paid for it. In fact, you can usually make a profit. The model grinder, vacuum mixer, and dental vibrator will cost a total of about $1775 if purchased new.

I just did an ebay search and found the same equipment in very good used condition for a total of $790. The miscellaneous small stuff will probably cost you about three hundred dollars.

So, with some good used equipment deals,  you could get your lab started for under $1100. That is an incredibly small investment to make in a business with a six figure income potential.

Q:  Do I need to be certified?

A:  No. Study models are classified as diagnostic aids, not intra-oral appliances or dental prosthetics. In other words, they never enter the patient’s mouth so no certification is needed.
